The First Two Days

Okay, I'm finally here. It was an all day trip getting from Gainesville to Paris, but after many hours of traveling I arrived safe and sound. The trip went smoothly; I slept for probably about three hours on the flight, which wasn't much but that's okay.

Some highlights of the trip: directly after landing, while we're taxing in to the gate the first song that they put on to welcome us to Paris was "Spanish Lullaby" by Glora Estefan (I think...it sounded like her). Nice.

Highlight #2: also related to a song. On the way from the airport to my apartment (in the shuttle), the driver turned on the radio. The song that came on: "It's just...(ahh)...a little crush...(crush)...that gets on me everytime we touch!" Yet another good welcome-song. Oh, and Shakira is in Spanish in France. Just thought I'd let you know.

Also, apparently my computer knows I'm in France. The entire blogger.com site is in French. I didn't do that. Blogger did that. He's sees you when you're sleeping; he knows when you're awake...

In other news, I spent the first day and a half really just wandering around Paris. My apartment is great; perfect for what I'm doing and where I am. It's literally a two minute walk from the Bastille, which means it's a great location. I would post a picture, but OF COURSE I forgot my camera in Meghan's car. So, pictures might not show up for another two weeks (unless I can find some sort of temporary camera). Oh, and I went by Notre-Dame, and it's magnificent. So is the outside of the Louvre (haven't gone in yet).

Okay, I have to put out some flames with the Alliance Francaise (they think I'm only here for four weeks, but I'm actually here for six weeks). Thus, I need to go. Leave me cool comments; oh and congratulations to Grandma and Grandpa Lundborg and Leah Mader for being the first people to comment on the blog. Also, congrats to Kate Lundborg for being the only person to leave me a "Kato" in my money clip. I almost gave it to a waitress at a cafe.

Oh, and final highlight: while I was waiting for the airport shuttle a lady came up to me and said something in French. I looked at her and said, "Pardon?" and she went, "Oh sorry, I thought you were French." Well, at least I have the look down.

I am dying laughing at the "it's just...aahhh... a little crush." Seriously. Tears rolling down my face.

So glad you arrived at your destination safe and sound. You and my parents probably crossed paths in the air as they were flying from LA back to London on Monday. Did you wave to them?

Can't wait to hear all about your adventures!

Hey Dan... what an exciting start! I'm sure the 4/6 week thing will work itself out. We're just glad you're there, safe and sound. I have the songs you wrote about playing in my head... kind of a soundtrack for Dan's trip to France! And how 'bout that smart Mac of yours... wish I could land in another country and start talking the language!

I know Meghan can hardly wait to join you... what a cool way to spend your first anniversary... strolling the streets of France.

Luv ya man...

Elizabeth, glad you enjoyed the song. Yea, I thought it was pretty awesome too. What were your parents doing in Los Angeles? Love that place.

Oh Danny boy...
I am soooooo excited to be living vicariously through you this summer! And I am sooooo proud of you for not looking like an American! (My highest compliment came in Scotland at the rental car line when the woman said hello in Finnish, then German!)

Brian, I could see you as possibly Finnish (cool language by the way...not that I really know it all that well). That is a compliment.

Katie, definitely a bit of an error with "have your cake and eat it too." The Bastille quote you're looking for is (survey SAYS!) "Let them eat cake" spoken (or allegedly spoken) by Marie Antoinette (the queen at the time). Though I do definitely appreciate the effort. American in Paris is a good call (great music); I'll think of any others.

Mulrich, it was definitely the greatest compliment I've ever received.

oh silly, dan. i am no professor like you, but i knew that wasnt what she said...i knew it was "let them eat cake" i was trying to make it a little funnier...as usual, not so successful. haha.....

either way, you are awesome.
